This week our TRIO workshop was Procrastination and Time Management so I find it appropriate to write this. As we all know, college life can be pretty busy. You need to make time for class, studying, club meeting, exercising, personal time (personal hygiene), eating, and of course the number one most important thing: eating and sleeping. Most people in general think you can make up time for sleeping. In reality, that is not possible. Even if you sleep in for the whole day the next day, you cannot make up for lost time from sleeping. You need sleep because that’s how your body recuperates from being up all day. In fact, during sleep your body regenerates cells and damage you have done to your body throughout the day. Did you know that people who work the night shift throughout their lives die 10 years earlier than someone who sleeps at night and works during the day? I talked to a personal trainer once and he told me, the time that you need to sleep for your body to heal properly is between the hours of 9PM -3 AM. So, what do you need to do so you can make sure you get enough sleep? According to one of our TRIO students, Kevon Bremmer, plan out your daily schedules! He showed me one of his daily schedules and it listed everything he had to do from the time he got up until he came home at night. By doing this, it allows you to see what time you have available to do what you want and need. At the same time, it allows you to physically see when you are wasting the most time during the day. The key thing to remember is, you only have so many hours to do work in a day. Plan it out efficiently and always make time for sleeping and eating. Depriving yourself of these will only decrease your immune system and make you sick. This will only waste more of your time when you are sick.
